The Kina8at Cultural Center is a project that links Indigenous heritage, reconnection with Mother Earth, holistic well-being, and local learning and discovery.

The cultural center draws its shape from the turtle, symbolizing wisdom, life, and the feminine for the Anishinaabe. The building is series of pavilions, delicately resting on the ground in the form of a circle, offering freedom of movement between nature and the built environment.

Between inclined planes and an exposed wooden structure, the contemporary interpretation of vernacular architecture places human in relationship with nature. Wandering under the tension of the form transports visitors beneath the turtle's shell, offering freedom of movement.

The diversity of the cultural center's activities immerses visitors in ancestral knowledge, encouraging cultural exchanges and the sharing of traditions between communities.

The paths linking the various pavilions are themselves a journey through Indigenous history and knowledge. Each step along these paths invites visitors to discover and understand the profound links between the land, nature, and traditions. They offer visitors an educational and spiritual experience, while respecting the natural landscape.

Nature and architecture come together, inviting visitors to follow interpretive trails and discover ancestral traditions in a calming setting.
