The public installation Entre les rangs is the winning entry of the 4th annual Luminothérapie competition, a Quartier des Spectacles initiative that challenges Montreal’s design community to work with artists from diverse disciplines to create an immersive winter experience. Entre les Rangs revisits the agricultural history of Quebec, the row settlements along the St. Lawrence River indicative of the 17th century Seigneurial system of New France, to contextualize a dialogue with a contemporary urban context.

As a reference to Quebec’s wheat fields that undulate in the wind and through the seasons, the contemporary installation Entre les rangs is comprised of thousands of flexible stems topped with white reflectors that take advantage of the surrounding stimuli to create an ever-shifting array of animation.

Immersed in the heart of a sensory experience, visitors are invited to a winter walk through a series of winding paths, where the stems merge into a large canvas agitated by the wind, caressed by light and carried by music.
